“Appreciating the Joys and Embracing the Challenges”

Welcome to the 2018 annual seminar of the National Organization of Blind Educators (NOBE). We hope that our seminar today gives you an opportunity to learn some useful strategies, network with blind colleagues, and enjoy the many possibilities in this rich profession. We are glad you’ve joined us. As you await the beginning of our meeting, we hope you enjoy the following quotations about teaching:

“I am indebted to my father for living, but to my teacher for living well.”
-- Alexander the Great

“The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.”
-- Mark Van Doren

“The thing I love the most – and still love – about teaching is you can connect with an individual or a group and see that individual or group exceed their limits.”
-- Mike Krzyzewski

“Every child deserves a champion – an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the value of connection and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.”
-- Rita Pierson

“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”
-- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
